Sooke River 10k Race Report - race # 8.

I feel like I am in personal best condition, having run a personal best 1/2 marathon recently in 83:51 and bringing down my modest 5k times close to 17 material, but not quite.

There was no point in me racing today for series purposes, the standings were already determined. Also, I am racing The Vancouver Sun Run and the Times Colonist 10k, so I questioned why I should even bother.

A little voice in me was saying, "you hate the course, you run terrible on it, it has got you by the balls sucka."

And there was a bigger voice replying, "yes I hate you Sooke River 10k with your stupid hills and....ah....well it's actually just the stupid hills I hate. The race is well run by the good peeps at Island Road Racers.

I am a good downhill runner and can really close the gap on time with some downhill work however, uphills are my Achilles Heel.

I felt good in the warm up so I thought I should go hard. I also, checked the elevation profile and decided to be patient, which was a smarter tactic. I thought if I ran just shy of full-on 10k race pace until after the 7k marker, I should be able to bring home a fairly good finish, rather than a fizzle.

My fastest split was the 10th one!! WOOT!

The time was 38:14, which tells me that possibly I can run a 36:59 at either TC or Sun Run, if everything goes just right. That will be epic for me, in my little world.

3:41 - 36:50 pace

3:39 - 37:14 pace
